Three Armor Pieces: Helmet, Sword, and Shield

Life is a battle against the powers of darkness and against personal weaknesses. Our valiance in this great struggle is dependent upon divine assistance which is symbolized as the “Armor of God.” The helmet represents the hope of salvation giving us focus, stability, and constancy amidst the challenges of life. Our defense against the assault of evil is the shield of faith, the only power that is equal to the extremities of the mortal test, and the sword of the spirit whereby the faithful move forward with the aid of divine gifts and powers. (Ephesians 6:13-17)

The Branch, The Vine, and the Harvest of Fruit
As men and women are begotten anew of the Christ, a “life force” connection is established with him. Just as the branch draws succor from the vine, so the true disciples of Jesus are made fruitful as they maintain their covenant relationship with the Great Redeemer. This kinship with the Divine is the key to our bringing forth an abundant harvest unto God. (John 15:5)

The Oil Lamp and the Words of Holy Writ
These symbols of light and truth refer to the need for daily communion with God whereby our minds are enlightened and our hearts are filled with righteous desire. Thus, by diligent prayer and feasting upon the words of Christ we are made alive in the “inner man.” (3 Nephi 19:25, 2 Nephi 31:20)

The Heart
Love, as symbolized here, is the highest attribute of the refined soul. It lifts us from the sordid pull of the fallen nature and enables us to emulate the divine pattern in all the relationships of life. (John 15:12)

Regal Crowns
All earthly crowns and rewards are temporary and perishable. Our faith and highest endeavors look beyond that paltry glory the world confers as we yearn for those eternal crowns God bestows upon the faithful -- they becoming kings and queens, priests and priestesses in the mansions above. (D&C 132:20)

The Lion
This universal symbol of power and might typifies the majesty and righteous dominion of the Christ, the “Lion of Judah.” It is his power that shall ultimately be accorded us as we allow ourselves to be tutored in humility, patience, and meekness here below. (Genesis 49:8-12; Revelation 5:5)

Intertwining Rings
We are families within a family, unified in sentiment and worthy aspirations -- precious individual entities in the greater house of Israel.

Plumes of Foliage
As greenery grows from the earth, we similarly seek to live life to its fullest -- to be fully alive, physically, emotionally, and spiritually -- remembering that only those things which God sustains truly live and grow.

Significant Colors
Gold and Silver: Representing ore that has been purged and refined as men and women are refined by God’s power (D&C 128:24) -- Red: Representing the ransoming and cleansing blood of Christ -- Green: Representing that life nurtured by Gods’s power -- Blue: Representing royalty as eternally appointed by heaven’s design.

Family Motto
“Living Beyond Self” -- True fulfillment, happiness, and contribution are always associated with an overriding sense of purpose involving things that are higher than “self.” May the Roylance name ever be associated with selfless service, devotion that is not daunted by inconvenience, and love which is given without the need for reciprocity.
